Recycling

I read Recycling, a book in the Oxford Bookworms series.
It was written by Rosemary Border.

How much rubbish do you throw away in a year? It could be more than a tonne or less than a hundred kilograms, but it's still too much. The Earth is disappearing under a mountain of rubbish - often poisonous - yet, as this book shows, much of this rubbish could be recycled. Recycling can save energy, materials and money - it may also save the Earth.

Thanks for this book, I could learn about recycling. It was very surprising for me to know that we probably throw away about seven kilograms of rubbish every week. Also, I was surprised to know two recycling facts. One, old bottles can be made into glass fibre. Fabric made from glass fibre is long-lasting, and it will not burn. The other, we can also send thousands of telephone messages at once along one thin glass fibre. But it isn't made from recycled glass.

Glossary
acid: something which burns without heat
decay: to break up naturally
dispose of: to destroy something that is not wanted
fabric: materials, e.g. cotton, from which clothes can be made

Rosemary Border,(1996).Recycling. Oxford Bookworms.

Information Technology

I read Information Technology, a book in the Oxford Bookworms series.
It was written by Paul A Davies.

Computers are everywhere - in our homes, our schools, our shops, offices and hospitals. We use them every day, but what do we know about them? Where did they begin, and  when? What is Moore7s Law, and how do you pass the Turing Test? What can Deep Blue do, and  how did Nolan Bushnell begin with 500 dollars and end with 28 million dollars? In this book you can find the answer to all these questions - and much more.

Thanks for this book, I could learn about history of computers. It is interesting for me to know about history of the first computers, the PC, Microsoft and the Internet. And I was excited to think about the future of the computer. I thought that computers will do many different jobs in the world of the future - perhaps they will drive taxis or work in shops.

Glossary
wire: a thin piece of metal for carrying electricity
virtual reality: pictures and sound made by a computer, nearly the two as the real world
prediction: saying what will happen in the future
operating system: the software that allows computers to understand programs
